Large-scale painting series

Location

In 2006, I embarked on a project to capture the vastness and enigmatic beauty of the natural world through a series of large-scale paintings on paper. Inspired by the allure of uncharted territories, my work seeks to convey the immensity of nature and explore the darkness and unknowability that shrouds the far reaches of our Earth and the celestial bodies within our solar system.

These paintings delve into the mysterious and evoke a sense of the unknown, drawing parallels to the inscriptions found on historical maps in areas yet to be explored – the iconic "here be dragons." The darkness in the artworks serves not only as a visual element but also as a metaphor for the unexplored realms, both on our planet and in the cosmos.

With a palette dominated by black tones, the series captures the essence of the undiscovered, where shadows and shades become metaphors for the secrets held by the Earth and the celestial bodies that surround it. The use of large-scale paper as a canvas adds a tactile dimension to the viewing experience.

These paintings, born from a fascination with the unknown and a desire to convey the magnitude of nature's wonders, serve as a visual exploration of the darkness that pervades uncharted territories. Through this series, I aim to evoke a sense of wonder, encouraging viewers to contemplate the vastness of our world and the mysteries that lie beyond the familiar horizons.
