Sometimes you have to change the plan at the last minute.
I thought the information boards for our ‘Brave Spaces’ project were pretty much finished. The design was done, the order sent to the printer. Then, just before the deadline, came the technical briefing. A critical detail—that the hardware itself has no information screen—turned out to be a wrong assumption on my part.
That led to a brief moment of stress. I had to pause the print job and redesign the whole thing. It was frustrating, too, because I wish I’d had that information two months earlier. But this is exactly what design research can be: you adapt based on emerging insights.
The revised design, now with more context and a clearer infographic, is better than the original. The project partners responded positively, and the mounting solution I came up with independently turned out to be the standard procedure. In the end, things fall into place. 😅
