Beyond the Developer Label: The Rise of the Modern Builder

I build software, but I’m not a software developer.

I’ve spent hours prototyping these last few days. Building workflows in n8n, connecting APIs, designing prompts that act as a thinking partner. I get into a state of flow, creating things that actually work and automate complex tasks. And I love it.

And yet, the label ‘developer’ doesn’t feel right at all. It doesn’t capture what this is. ‘Maker’ or ‘prototyper’ gets closer, but still feels incomplete. It’s a fascinating experience to develop a skill that feels so valuable, but for which we don’t quite have the right language yet.
